Part of the Rock Monkey Outfitters dream from the beginning has been to give back to worthwhile and life-changing projects to help those in need. We are excited to jump on board with The Mwangi Land & Livelihood Project to help resettle and reestablish livelihoods for a family of 18 who live in a slum in Nairobi, Kenya. In the past, Baba & Mama Serah were successful farmers before their land was forcibly taken from them, leaving them no choice but to move into a slum close to the city to find work. Now, we have a chance to help give back to them their lives.

The Need

Baba & Mama Serah barely make ends meet to provide for their family of 18 in a poverty-stricken slum northeast of Nairobi, Kenya. Their family includes 19-year-old Mwangi, an orphan they welcomed into their family when he was 10 and has suffered from developmental disabilities since birth. Baba works as a day laborer and Mama sells small commodities in a kiosk to support their family.

The Project

We want to help significantly improve the quality of life for Mwangi and his family by purchasing a plot of fertile farm land away from the city, build a house to properly accommodate their large family and gain sustainable income through farming. Our hope is that Mwangi, Baba and Mama Serah, and their family will no longer be susceptible to hunger, disease and sickness that is so prevalent in the slum.

The RMO Committment

Rock Monkey Outfitters has pledged to donate 50 cents per every item sold this year to help fund the project. For us, Living the Dream is not just about outdoor adventures; it’s also about giving back to help make life dreams come true for those in need. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation to the project, donate online through Pure Charity.
